Kitchen Chronicles: The Arbi Rescue Mission

Kitchen Chronicles: The Arbi Rescue Mission

 Rescue Mission
It was around 4:00 PM, and I was absolutely exhausted after a long day of work. I opened the fridge to see what options I had for dinner. Most of the veggies were already used up, and the only thing left staring back at me was Taro Root (Arbi).
To be honest, my first thought was, "Oh no, not this sticky vegetable. What if it triggers an allergy or makes my hands itch?" But then I thought, "Let’s just do it."
Before I could even start, I looked at the kitchen counter and realized the dishes needed washing. So, I cleaned up the counter, washed the utensils, and got ready to prep. To keep things manageable, I sat my baby right next to me on the counter. He happily played with his toys while I started peeling and cutting the Arbi.
But as soon as I finished cutting, my worst fear came true—my hands started itching like crazy! Even though I had washed the vegetable thoroughly beforehand, the peel was so reactive that it turned my skin completely red.
Right then, I remembered I still had to chop the onions. A quick life-saving trick popped into my head. To neutralize the strong sting of the onions, I usually rub them under running water. But before doing that this time, I took some of that fresh onion juice and rubbed it all over my itchy hands. Amazingly, the intense burning and itching from the Arbi vanished almost instantly!
So, here is a quick home remedy for all of you: Whenever you chop Arbi at home, either wear gloves to protect your skin, or keep an onion handy. If your skin starts reacting, just rub a little onion juice over the area, and the itch will go away. Trust me, that Taro root itch can be brutal!
Despite the chaotic prep, the dish turned out absolutely delicious. I kept it simple and just fried the Arbi with plenty of onions. My husband absolutely loved it!
That was a little recap of yesterday's dinner adventure. Stay tuned, because I am about to share today's update with you all very soon!
